Professor Martin Berinbaum
Professor Martin Berinbaum heads the Brass, Wind, and Percussion Division at the University of British Columbia, a role he has held since 1976. In addition, he teaches trumpet and chamber music there and conducts the Wind Ensemble. Professor Berinbaum also directs the UBC Summer Music Institute. He has performed with over 100 orchestras and bands globally, including the Los Angeles Philharmonic and the Vancouver Symphony. His work showcases a lifelong passion for brass music and education.
Dr. Robert Taylor
Dr. Robert Taylor is a Professor of Music and Director of Bands at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, BC. He conducts the Symphonic Wind Ensemble there, and he also teaches graduate and undergraduate conducting. Dr. Taylor chairs the Woodwind, Brass, and Percussion Division. His career in music education spans over twenty-five years. Ensembles under his direction earned recognition from Downbeat Magazine and Grammy Signature Schools. As one of our honorable musical consultants, his leadership and experience are an asset to our programs.
Mr. Robert Aitken
Robert Aitken is a world-renowned Canadian flutist, composer, and conductor. He has received the Order of Canada and is a Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres (France). Aitken served as principal flute for both the Vancouver and Toronto Symphony Orchestras. However, he embarked on a solo career in 1970. Aitken has more than 70 recordings to his credit. Many notable composers, including John Cage, George Crumb, and Elliott Carter, have dedicated works to him. In 2003, the National Flute Association (USA) presented him with a Lifetime Achievement Award.
