The music summer camp (study tour), hosted by the School of Music at the world-renowned University of British Columbia (UBC) in Canada, offers a large-scale summer training program. Since its establishment in 1992, this popular program has welcomed over 10,000 students. Participants have come from Hong Kong, various US states, different Canadian provinces, and several Asian countries. They all take part in a two-week wind instrument and vocal training program. It’s an excellent fit for students playing instruments such as the flute, clarinet, trombone, trumpet, euphonium, tuba, French horn, percussion, bassoon, jazz drums, and saxophone. Ultimately, this camp brings young people from all cultural backgrounds together to share their love of music and the joy of group life.

Expert Leadership and World-Class Instruction

The UBC School of Music plans this summer camp. It also partners with the Hong Kong Pure Orchestral Centre and the Hong Kong Flute Centre to co-organize it. This unique study trip is jointly directed by Professor Martin Berinbaum, a renowned Canadian wind instrument conductor, and Ringo Chan, an experienced Hong Kong music educator. Over 80 instructors lead and teach the full training course. These experts include professors and instrumental instructors from the UBC School of Music, members of the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, and several widely recognized Vancouver jazz artists. Specifically, the faculty includes Professor Berinbaum, Director of the UBC Symphony Orchestra; Professor Okameli, Director of the University of Hawaii Orchestra; and Professor Shara, a well-known Canadian jazz educator.

The entire course offers advanced wind and vocal training. Furthermore, it also includes masterclasses and engaging workshops. Crucially, students will perform at the world-renowned The Chan Centre for the Performing Arts by the end of this course, thus providing a fantastic capstone experience. Moreover, participants will stay in beautiful new university dormitories. Similarly, they will also enjoy delicious meals. Ultimately, upon completion, students will earn a completion certificate directly from the UBC School of Music.
